Race Services - Intermountain Masters

Here's the really quick summary of the Intermountain Masters race procedures:
  • 5-year age classes (same as national masters classes)
  • second run start order: fastest-to-slowest within class except MSS
  • second run Men's Super Seed class starts in middle of the 50's classes, between classes 7 and 6 (top 10 men)

Running an Intermountain Masters Race using Split Second Timing Software

The Intermountain division runs masters races using 5-year age groups, as defined in the USSA Masters Competition Guide. A special "super seed" class is introduced for the second run, consisting of the fastest 10 men from the first run. Second run start order is by first run finish order within age class, with the exception of the men's "super seed" class which runs in reverse order of first run time.

For the basic procedures for running an Intermountain t masters race using the Alpine Race Scoring software from Split Second:

A description of the Intermountain masters age class start order and class coding conventions is given in:

We recommend starting from a master race entry data file when working with the Split Second timing software. The IM master race entry data file contains the current members of the IM masters, with their correct birthdate, age class, USSA license, and bib numbers already entered.

Download this master entry race file into your SplitSecond race data files directory, unpack the files in the .zip file, and follow the instructions in the procedures checklist for setting up the race and editing the competitor data. (Note: The standard location for Split Second data files is in your Windows My Documents folder, stored on your hard drive at c:\My Documents\SplitSecond\Alpine and Snowboard).

A description of the IM Masters leader bibs awarded to the top men and women racers of each season is given in:

IMM Procedure Summary

To set up a race after you have downloaded the master race entry race file, copy and rename the race data file suitably. Process race entries by marking each registered racer with an R in the Club/Quota field. When all race entries have been processed and you are ready to generate entry and start lists, remove unregistered racers from the Competitors list: sort using the Club/Quota field, select all racers who aren't registered (blank Club field), and delete them from the competitor list.

To sort into class start order, simply sort in ascending order using the Team field, which contains a sort code.

First run start order is random within class: randomize the entry list (preferably several times), then sort into class start order using the Team field.

Second run start order is in order of first run finish within class (i.e., fastest to slowest), except for the special Super Seed class, which runs reverse order (slowest-to-fastest). Racers are assigned to the second run super seed class by changing their class to SS and assigning a sort code letter in the Team field of SSS for the Men's Super Seed class. so that the SS class runs in the middle of the 50's classes, between classes 7 and 6 in the standard age class start order.

For second run, sort by ascending first run time to get fastest-to-slowest, then select qualified racers and sort them into class start order using the Team field. Then select the competitors in the SS class and sort them into reverse finish time order by descending first run start time.
