Far West Masters Athlete Development Fund
(2002-2003)

The Athlete Development Fund is a program founded and operated by volunteer from the Far West Masters to support ski racing and junior athlete development in the Far West division.

2002-2003 Athlete Development Fund

The Far West Masters Athlete Development Fund has been raising funds for deserving Far West junior skiers since 1992. All money raised comes from Far West Masters racers, and is distributed with no overhead to Far West Junior Athletes. Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of financial need, ski racing potential and exemplary work ethic.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported this program, particularly the sponsors and donors who have so generously contriibuted to support the raffles and other fundraising efforts. And congratulations to all of our scholarship athletes!

About the Scholarship Fund Program

Our program initially raised money simply by direct contributions from Masters racers. However, over the years the program has expanded to include more fundraisers:

  • A season-long raffle with prizes ranging from dinners, gift certificates, ski wax and accessories to skis, poles and bindings
  • A wine tasting event
  • An auction of a Mike Wiegele Helicopter skiing trip
  • >
  • A dual race including Masters racers and junior scholarship winners

Recipients of the award must forerun one of our races and speak at that day's awards ceremony. It's always fun to see these hot juniors tear up our courses, and equally impressive to listen to them talk about their goals and desires.
